Want to give your readers another way to absorb your content?  I encourage you to checkout this article.  I’ll be covering how to properly setup and use Odiogo’s text to speech plugin for WordPress.

What it does is convert your written post into audio in (almost) real time, letting your users load up your site and listen to your blog post instead of just reading it. By the end of the article you will have this functionality setup and added to your blog for free.

What Is Text To Speech?

If you’ve used any text to speech software before, like the one that comes with your mac, or windows variants, then you have a good idea what I’m talking about.  It’s basically a computer reading text to you.

The voice work isn’t as good as human speech, but, by using this plugin… you get it for free.  That’s right, no work (other than installing the plugin, which I’ll show you how to do below).

Why Should I Do This?

The most obvious reason to do this is to give your visitors another way of absorbing your content.  They can listen to the audio for your post, while browsing another page, or doing work around the office or house.  It also increases accessibility, allowing users another way to access your content, something they may not of had the chance to with just text.

Ok, So What Do I Do?

Visit Odiogo.com and signup. Odiogo Signup All you need to do is put in your blog’s website address (URL) and your email address. After that you’re presented with the ability to download the plugin and given instructions on how to install it.

You can also use the 1 click install option, which I cover in this article on how to install wordpress plugins.Odiogo SignUp Message Unzip the plugin and upload the directory (odiogo_listen_button) to your wp-content/plugins directory. Next you have to login to your dashboard and visit plugins, from here you activate the Odiogo Listen Button. Activate Odiogo Next you need to enter your Feed ID (You get this right after you sign up).  Under Settings on the left side of your dashboard click Odiogo Listen Button Options. insert odiogo feed id 400x161 Add Text To Speech To Your WordPress Blog With Odiogo If you want your visitors to subscribe to your Odiogo feed, then under Appearance click Widgets and add the Odiogo Subscribe Button.

Done, So Now What?

Now you’re through, everything should be working, and audio is instantaneous. You can click at the top of the website on the “Listen Now” button to see how it works. (Please note, it may take a few hours before your entire blog is ready, but it should start showing up within a few days, usually in hours.)

Conclusion

In this article / video I showed you how to install the Odiogo Text To Audio plugin.  I talked about why this plugin is so important (giving your readers another way to enjoy your content (for free) and help expand your SEO marketing efforts).  We went over step by step the exact steps to do and follow.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this article, and I’ll talk to you soon.

I tried adding odiogo to my site, and it says the article is not available yet. Does it take a while before I can start listening to my posts? Also, do you know how to not include the button on the home page where the excerpts of the articles are?
